The Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic, started by Dr. David Smith in 1966, offered its services to the hundreds of young people who came to the neighborhood from all over the country. By this time, some of the serious effects of drug addiction and overdose were becoming evident. The hospital’s waiting room was known as a “calm center” for those suffering from bad acid trips. (via)
